Natal at Igreja Batista Redenção - 2013

Sunday night we celebrated Christ's birth at Redemption Baptist Church.

We praise the Lord for the full house that we experienced.
We even  had visitors all the way from Ireland!

Our ladies worked very hard and we presented a mini cantata.
Jesus, our Treasure!
Rachel was part of the group as well but she was at the Piano during this photo.
Sandro did an excellent job narrarating the cantata.

This last picture is of our children's church.  I wanted you to see the awesome Jesse Tree that Rachel put together with the kids.  They really enjoyed the look through the Bible and seeing how God's plan for Christmas and the Birth of our Savior was the plan from the beginning.

Merry Christmas to you from all of us here at IBR.  We praise the Lord for you and your faithful prayers on our behalf this year.  You are an intergral part of the ministry here!

We have a Constitution!

Sunday morning we were able to offically vote in our constituion!  We praise God for these faithful servants and the vision they have to plant a church in São José.  We have several steps still to go to be offical before the government but we are very excited to have taken this step.

Continue to pray for us in the coming year that God will guide and direct the future of
Redemption Baptist Church.

Sad good-byes and Joyous Celebrations

Last weekend we said goodbye to a sweet young lady.  We have gotten to know Bruna over the past two years and are so thankful for her sweet spirit and love for the Lord.   From the moment we met her she was willing to help out in any area.  She planned games with the children, cleaned the church, shared the gospel with people on the street, played the keyboard and more.  At the beginning of the year she started helping me with Children's church on Sunday nights, which was a huge blessing! So on her last night with us, we held a little going away party for her... and we took lots of pictures!
Bruna and the group that serves in the area of music.

Bruna and some of the kids that she has worked with over the past two years.

You might be wondering why she is leaving.  Well, now you know!  Last Saturday she and Jonathan were marreid.  He lives 12 hours from here and so although it was a joyous celebration,  it led to a sad good-bye.  We are so thankful that God is sovereign and we know that it is His timing that she go.  We also know that she will be a big blessing to the little church plant there in the town where they will be living.

And there were added to the Body...

Igreja Batista Redenção (Redemption Bapist)
gladly welcomed three people into the body last weekend.

Three of our young people have professed Christ Jesus as their Savior.
They desired to obey the Lord in Baptism,
and declared publically their confidence in Christ's completed work on the Cross
and His ressurrection from the dead.

What a joy to hear their testimonies and witness their confidence in their Lord and Savior!
Please pray for these three that they would stand firm in the truths of God's Word.

Happy Birthday Jer!

Last week we celebrated our baby's 7th birthday!

He was so excited to go with me to the store on his birthday and select his cake.
As you can see, the Avengers, Iron man cake won out.

He planned out his whole day, meals included.
We had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, chicken patties and salad for lunch, and McDonalds for supper.

We are so thankful for our third child and the young man he is growing up to be.
He prays almost every night that he would love God more and learn more about his Word.
We pray the same prayer with him.

Update on the Nebs

We are half way through the 4 weeks of NEBs.
We are excited to see how God is working.
Our two Friday night studies have been going really well.
So far in these studies 11 unsaved adults have had several opportunities to hear the Gospel.
Our Saturday night study has not had any unsaved adults attend but a couple of young people are hearing the Gospel again and we are praying that they will be saved.

Please pray as the next two lessons are key.  The focus is on Sin this week and the Cross next week.

Brazil in Pictures

This week I am sharing a picture of Chimarrão, the traditional loose tea drink of the south.
Natives to Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are big drinkers of this hot tea.  Recently we were talking with some friends from Rio Grande do Sul and they shared that even during the church service the drink is passed around!

The cup is made from a dried fruit from tree called Crescentia cujete L. (It belongs to the family Bignoniaceae.)

The straw is called a "bomba" that has a filter at the bottom to strain out the loose tea particles.

You fill the cup with the loose tea and pack it to one side of the cup,  inserting the straw on the oposite side and adding hot water to the side with no tea.

It is a social drink.  Everyone drinks from the same cup/straw. You drink your cup full and then pass it on.   I asked how no one gets sick and they say it is either the hot water that kills the germs or the fact that the straw is generally stainless steel.  Nevertheless, sickness it not a preoccupation with this drink.

Sharing Chimarrão is a sign of hospitality and friendship in the south.  Tuesday night a new friend from Rio Grande came over and so we shared some Chimarrão.  It was the first time Rachel had drank it.  While the three of us were studying Lies Women Believe and the Truth that sets them Free (Nancy Leigh DeMoss), we each drank about 3 cups full.   Drinking, refilling and passing it on.

Celebrating Children's Day

This year  we celebrated Children's day a little different.  We celebrated Friday night with our adolescents and teens by going bowling and out for hot dogs.

We are so thankful for the young people has brought to our church and the seeds of the Word that are being sown into their hearts.
Last night on the way to church with a bunch of our adolescents, they began quoting their memory verse.  We had an incredible discussion on what was the meaning of this verse:
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— Romans 5.12
I am amazed to hear their interest in the Word, the understanding that is coming through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.  Please keep praying for the salvation of many of these young people and their families.

Sunday afternoon we had a picnic for the families of the younger children.  We brought their bikes along and they had a wonderful time playing at the park, doing some organized games and racing around the track.

It was a wonderful weekend full of fellowship and fun.
I am so thankful for the church that God is building here in greater Florianopolis!

Brazil in Pictures

Brazilians have the CLEANEST shoes.
You almost never see kids in dirty, scuffed up tennis shoes. (unless you see my kids :)

So this is a very common sight here...
Clean shoes hanging out in the sun drying.

Family Blessings

We are so thankful for the trip my parents and grandpa were able to make to Brazil in September.   God was so generous to us in allowing these special times with our family.  Times that allow my children to really know and have special memories with their grandparents and great grandpa.
Here are just a few snap shots of those special days.

It doesn't get better than this...

 Special girl times!!!

 Strolls along the sea wall.

Shopping for flip-flops or as we say here "Chinelos"
