Baby Steps

Well, I have been uninspired to blog recently because honestly, it seems like not much is happening around here. We are doing things, but with little visible results.

We decided recently that discipling a person is like watching a baby learn to walk. They fall down a lot and at times you wonder if they will ever walk. (Daniel was like that :)

We are actively working with 7 professing adult Christians. Pray for them that they will daily live in surrender to the Christ they claim as their Savior. Pray that they will be faithful in Church so that they are more equipped to deal with the temptations they will face during the week.

Sharon and I are starting a ladies bible study next week. We decided to do one study with all the ladies instead of several individual ones throughout the week. We were happy to find Feminine Appeal here in Portuguese so we will be using this book during the study. It is a great study on the Titus 2 Woman.

Pray with us that these women will be open to what the Lord has to teach them; Sharon & me too.

Happy 7th Birthday Hannah!!!

This week we celebrated Hannah's 7th! We are so amazed at how much she is changing and growing. She is a natural leader and is always full of fun ideas. She has a tender heart and we look forward to seeing how God will mold her in the future.

Here are some snap shots of her various little celebrations from the week.

Monday Hannah & I made cupcakes to share with her friends that afternoon.

She was so sweet and asked if she could put on 2 extra candles for Jer & Gabe to blow out too.

Praying for Salvation

Vera (in the middle) and Christen

Today I had a chance to visit with one of our unsaved friends, Vera. James has shared the Gospel with her many times, but she has always been so proud of her good life that she cannot seem to hear that Salvation is a free gift from God.

Over the week between Christmas and New Year, she was in the hospital two times and had 6 instruments put into her heart. Her heart is currently functioning at 35%.

Today she told me of the peace she has about dying. She again stated all of her good deeds that she has done through out her life. I was able to mention several little comments about the gospel not being based on our works but I had no real opportunity to share.

Then she told me,

"Christen, I look out my window and pray all the time and think about God, and ask Him to forgive all my sins. But, I am not sure I deserve His forgiveness. "

This was the opportunity I was looking for!

I told her, "Vera, none of us deserve His forgiveness, that is why Christ had to die."

I went on to share with her that seeing the sinful condition of her heart was really the first step in believing. If we don't see our sinful condition, why would we need a Savior? She really listened. She seemed so humble and open.

Pray with us for her, that God would open her eyes to see Him and be saved. Also pray for her husband Hamilton. He too is not saved and is very worried about her health. Hamilton and James

What We've Been Up To...

We're back!! (To blogging that is:)

Since Christmas, we have spent lots of time playing with our Christmas presents.

Got back to school...Daniel has been reading up a storm and he currently loves roman numerals and studying about the vikings in History with Daddy.

Hannah likes singing her geography songs, reading the Beginners Bible, and learning about alliteration.
"Chrissy the cat wore a cap and a cape while she ate a cup of cream."

Jeremiah has been working with lots of puzzles since we got home. This he did all on his own!Hannah's 7th birthday is coming up soon, the 18th, and so we are all looking forward to a visit from Gran and Grandpa soon!
