Gracious Words and Parenting

Words from a wise man's mouth are gracious.
Ecclesiastes 10:12

"Grace is God giving us what we do not deserve. God gives the gift of forgiveness and everlasting life to people who deserve his condemnation. Sometimes parents justify ungracious speech by thinking, "This is what this child deserves." The wise parent, in contrast to that thinking, is gracious. This parent imitates God who is gracious, who kindly gives us what we do not deserve-grace."

Some thoughts on biblical communication with our children from the book, Instructing a Child's Heart, by Ted & Margy Tripp.

Sunday Update

The kids getting ready for our opening singing time.

We were so excited today as we had a record attendance! We had 8 adults and 11 kids, we are included in this but hey, it still is exciting. Each of the kids comes with a parent to the bible study so not only are we reaching the kids but the parents as well. James helped me out with the children's Sunday School, since we had such a large group, ages 2-10.

Time for Sunday School

It was so neat to have 3 brothers back today that had participated in our kids club last July. David and Sharon have continually reached out to their parents and today the father came for the second time to the adult study and this time he brought his 3 boys. They were a wonderful addition to the 3 other children that have come 3 times this month. We met their parents through our February outreach and have done several bible studies with their mother and grandparents.
Friday James, David, Roberto and one of the fathers went fishing. It was an attempt to build a bridge and live the christian life up close.

Snack time and worksheet time

This afternoon, we had a visitor at our gate, our old friend, the Jehovah's Witness, came over and asked for a Bible. He wanted to do a comparison with his. After a brief conversation, James found out that he has been reading some doctrinal books by a Baptist theologian. James gave him a Bible and a copy of the John Piper book, 5o Reasons Why Christ had to Die. We are so thankful for God reopening this door. If you'll remember, James did several months of studies with this man when we first moved here. We are so excited to see what God might be doing.

Tortilla Factory

One thing we Texans miss here in Brazil are flour tortillas.

Warm and soft and....oh so delicious!

Last night Hannah & Jer and I decided to make a huge batch of flour tortillas. We have an authentic Mexican recipe that we all dug our hands into.
Then Jer helped roll out the shells and Hannah handled all the cooking.

She was an excellent flipper!

We ate some plain and then turned the rest into Cheese Quesadillas.
There wasn't much left over:)

Our Mother's Day Outreach

The day of our Mother's Day outreach dawned cold and rainy. This translates into many people not leaving their homes. We prayed that people would come but were a little low on faith that many or any would come out.

An hour and a half before it was scheduled to start, Sharon called me and said one of our contacts had arrived. Well, she was early but we were at least guaranteed ONE!

James and I went to pick up another lady who had confirmed that she would come and she brought her husband to our ladies tea!We started with 3 ladies present and soon after 2 others arrived. They loved the craft which was a French word called biscuit. It took forever but they loved it and didn't want to quit.

We started from scratch using corn starch, glue, lemon juice, water, liquid Vaseline; then, lots of kneading, warming a little in the microwave, adding paint to color the dough. Finally working on our craft. We decorated baby food jars. Here is our lid. Can you tell it is a rose bud?

Sharon brought a devotional while we drank our tea and had some snacks. Three of the ladies had never heard the Gospel before, so we were very excited about the opportunity.

All in all this was a great outreach. All the ladies just loved getting away from home and being together. We are already planning to do something again soon. Next time we hope that each of these ladies will bring a friend.

Thanks for your prayers for this outreach. All of this is Only by HIS Grace!

Karate Update

Daniel earned his yellow belt last Friday at his Karate class. He said he did the routine a little fast but I thought he did wonderfully.

Evangelism Challenge Part 2

I hope that some of you took last week's challenge to give a tract to someone you see on a regular basis. Here is your challenge for this week:

Go back to that person and ask them if they have had a chance to read the booklet you gave them. Ask them what they thought of it. If you used the Bridge tract, ask them where they are; are they separated from God or with God. If you used the 2 ways to live, ask them who is their King.
If they say something that sounds like they might truly be saved, ask them what they base their confidence on. So often I get to talking to someone and get stuck because they gave me an answer that I agreed with, yet I didn't have confidence we were really saying the same thing. This question, asking what they are basing their assurance on, is usually very good to get to the heart of what they believe. This then opens the door to share the truth of the Word.

When you lack the courage to speak up about your God, take a little time and reflect on who your God really is. I have been so encouraged as I have been memorizing and thus reflecting on Psalm 103.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeemed you life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Vs. 2-5

**Prayer Request: Please pray for our Mother's Day outreach tomorrow. We have invited around 26 women to come to a tea. Sharon will be sharing a challenge from the life of Mary which will include a strong salvation message. Pray that God will convict of sin and the need for submission to His way of Salvation.
