Carnaval

It is that time of year again where satan thinks that he is in control of this earth. Most of you know this event as Mardi Gras but here it is called Carnaval. Basically, Wednesday the 25th begins the 40 days of lent, and before that time of "holy living" and giving things up to "identify with Christ," we have to get all the sin out of our system.

It is so big here that most people are off of work until noon on Wednesday or Thursday. There is no school. This is a major holiday here.

Last year James and I had Cable TV and we really passed through Carnaval without noticing it. This year we have basic Brazilian TV and we basically cannot watch TV. About 2 weeks ago we saw a song performed during a news program that was promoting Carnaval. It basically said this: "Let's go back to the time of Adam and Eve, everybody naked, everybody naked. Don't feel ashamed, everyone is doing it. The whole world's naked, the whole world's naked..."

James and I were shocked to see how they were trying to manipulate the moral standard that God has instilled in all of our consciences; using peer pressure to influence others to sin.

Pray that God will show Himself the King that He is during this time of flagrant sin.

It is crazy that they actually make this a holiday. It is so sad how people think that they are doing anything to be like Christ when they act like this and then give something up for lent. They have no real concept of who God is.

I hope you all have a good week and can find some fun things to do as a family.

It was good talking to you yesterday.

Love,
Laura
